The shop projects a rough, edgy vibe, but the real magic happens in the backroom, where owner Adam Grandmaison is quickly transforming himself into a major rap tastemaker, one blunted, in-depth interview at a time. In the span of a few years, Grandmaison — better known as Adam22 — has built a DIY media empire that includes podcasts , vlogs, fashion and an ever-growing social media presence, bringing him to the attention of television producers and record labels, all of whom are very interested in what a 6-foot-3, pound, shaved-head, heavily tattooed white year-old who loves talking about drugs and threesomes thinks about the future of hip-hop. Back in , Adam Grandmaison, better known as Adam22, was on top of the world. Grandmaison, a heavily tattooed online poker player and BMX blogger, interviewed rappers like 6ix9ine , Trippie Redd , and the late Xxxtentacion well before any of them reached the Billboard charts. Grandmaison, then 33, was the head of a burgeoning media empire. A lifelong entrepreneur, Grandmaison saw an opportunity in a new YouTube feature called Super Chat, which allowed viewers to pin a comment and make payments during a livestream. As long as viewers paid and put a link to their track in their pinned comment, he would listen to their song — even if it took him all night. Soon, the requests — nearly a thousand of them — rolled in. Occasionally, craziness broke out during the livestream, like the time a man rushed into the room with a fake gun and held Adam at Gunpoint; the man was quickly tackled and restrained.
