Based on the unbelievable true story of one of the most famous con artists in history, Frank Abagnale Jr. We begin as Frank is captured by Agent Carl Hanratty, after years of pursuit. Frank, however, thinks the audience deserves to hear his version of the truth, and narrates his life as a hip, dance-heavy variety television show. We see Frank, as a teenager, run away from his unhappy home to live a life of great adventure, conning people by assuming a multitude of identities: airplane pilot, doctor, and lawyer, to name a few.
It follows the story of a con artist named Frank Abagnale. The musical was originally scheduled to premiere on July 25, at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle , with Jack O'Brien as director and choreography by Jerry Mitchell. The production received mostly positive reviews from critics. On March 11, , the musical began preview performances on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre , with an official opening date on April 10, The show featured most of the Seattle cast, with Butz, Tveit, Wopat, and Butler appearing in leading roles.
