Senator Rick Scott has reintroduced the Protect America’s Innovation and Economic Security from CCP Act, a bill that aims to solidify President Trump’s CCP Initiative under the Department of Justice (DOJ) to "prevent spying from the Chinese Communist Party on U.S. intellectual property and academic institutions."

This program looks to protect America’s best interests by fighting back against the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) attempts to take U.S. data, intellectual property, and trade secrets as well as protect the United States' "critical infrastructure and supply chains from foreign investments."

According to Sen. Scott, the Protect America’s Innovation and Economic Security from CCP Act would accomplish the following for against China:

  • CCP Initiative: Establishes the CCP Initiative within the DOJ’s National Security Division to counter national security threats to American interests.
  • Enforcement:
    • Targets trade secret theft, economic espionage, and cyberattacks by CCP-affiliated entities, including Chinese companies engaged in unfair competition with U.S. businesses, while investigating their investments in the U.S.
    • Strengthens the enforcement of the CFIUS regulations, particularly those related to Chinese investments, by collaborating with the DOT to implement amendments from the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act.
  • Coordination with Federal Agencies: Mandates collaboration between the DOJ, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other federal agencies to ensure coordinated efforts to safeguard American infrastructure from foreign threats, particularly in technology and supply chains.
  • Resources and Independence: Ensures independent operation with dedicated resources, distinct from other national security programs within the DOJ, allowing for specialized attention on CCP-related threats.

Sen. Scott shared that this move to reinstate President Donald Trump's (R) policies on China protects American national security and reverses former President Joe Biden's (D) "blind-eye" leadership on the issue.

“The Chinese Communist Party is one of the greatest threats to America’s national security and way of life as it seeks global domination by any means necessary," said Sen. Scott. "President Joe Biden recklessly ended the China Initiative that President Trump established during his first term, turning a blind eye as Communist China committed at least 60 known cases of espionage on the United States and our citizens during his administration."

The former Florida governor continued by saying that this bill will codify President Trump's intentions to hold China accountable for its hostilities against the United States.

"Now, President Trump is back in action to hold Communist China fully accountable for its exploitation of the United States. Our bill, the Protect America’s Innovation and Economic Security from CCP Act, will bring back the successful CCP Initiative to help President Trump face this threat head-on and Make America Safe Again," concluded Scott.

Senators Rick Scott (R-FL) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) have introduced the Decoupling from Foreign Adversarial Battery Dependence Act, bipartisan legislation that aims to relinquish the United States' dependence on Chinese-made batteries and "address the national security concerns regarding cybersecurity, supply chain disruptions, and domestic manufacturing of this technology."

Additionally, the bill would bar the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from purchasing batteries from six different Chinese-owned companies.

The companies that would be banned from selling batteries to the DHS include:

  1. Contemporary Amperex Technology Company, Ltd.
  2. BYD Company, Ltd.
  3. Envision Energy, Ltd.
  4. EVE Energy Company, Ltd.
  5. Gotion High-tech Company, Ltd.
  6. Hithium Energy Storage Technology company, Ltd.

The Decoupling from Foreign Adversarial Battery Dependence Act would also bar any company that does not adhere to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, as well as a multitude of other statutes.

Congressman Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) is leading this legislation in the House of Representatives.

Senator Scott shared that President Donald Trump's (R) administration is ushering in a "Golden Age" despite attempts from China to hold American prosperity back.

“America is entering its Golden Age with President Trump back in the White House, and that means prioritizing American manufacturing and self-reliance," said Sen. Scott. "Communist China is doing everything it can to achieve global dominance and is willing to harm Americans and businesses, manipulate our supply chains and breach our cybersecurity in the process. With our nation currently sourcing a majority of its batteries from Chinese-linked manufacturers, we’re subject to a major, unnecessary risk to our national security."

He concluded, "I am proud to introduce the Foreign Adversarial Battery Dependence Act to help secure our national security and take a stand against Communist China looking to take advantage of American consumers. I look forward to this critical legislation becoming law.”

Furthermore, Senator Hassan mentioned that this bill protects both America's supply chain and national security.

“Our national security should not require reliance on components made by adversaries like China. This bipartisan legislation will help safeguard both our supply chains and our national security by preventing the Department of Homeland Security from purchasing Chinese batteries for the devices and technology that keep Americans safe," said Sen. Hassan.

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) appeared on Fox Business to share his thoughts on the latest development with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a new federal entity designed to purge wasteful spending.

However, this has led Democrats to question the motives of Musk and DOGE as the left side of the aisle has demanded more transparency within the department.

"I think the Democrats are in the stages of a loss," said Sen. Scott. "It's either they're in the grief stage or the anger stage. But they don't understand that Donald Trump won the presidency, and part of the reason he won is all the Democrats' foolish decisions. He won because he committed to make government accountable and transparent. That's exactly what he's doing. That's exactly what Elon Musk is doing. And they're frustrated that this is happening."

Furthermore, Sen. Scott shared that as someone that came from the private sector, it requires meticulous attention to detail in order to maintain efficiency, especially in an environment such as the federal government like DOGE is attempting to replicate.

"The amount of waste is staggering. I'm a business guy. You did this constantly if you want to have a successful business. I became governor of Florida, January 2011. We went, line by line through the budget, 4000 lines of budget. We said, if it's not meeting its purpose, we're going to stop spending the money. That's exactly what you as a taxpayer, want them to do," said Scott.

Finally the former Florida governor gave a resounding endorsement of President Donald Trump (R) and Elon Musk as they continue their DOGE mission.

"So, Elon Musk is doing a great job. Donald Trump is doing a great job, and the Democrats cannot believe that this that all their all their failure, all their fraud, all their waste is being exposed and it's going away," concluded Scott.

President Trump created the Department of Government Efficiency on January 20, his first day of his second term in the Oval Office.

MIAMI - President Donald Trump recently announced that Gadyaces “Gady” Serralta will serve as the next Director of the United States Marshals Service.

"Gady is a lifelong public servant, with 34 years of Law Enforcement experience. I nominated him in my First Term to serve as the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Florida, and he has done an incredible job for the past six years," Trump said on Truth Social. "He was previously a Major in the Miami-Dade Police Department, and the Police Chief for Palmetto Bay, Florida."

Gadyaces "Gady" Serralta, 55, takes over for Mark Pittella, who was the agency's Deputy Director since August 2024. The position was previously run by Director Ronald Davis but was listed as vacant until the announcement.

Serralta was confirmed by the US Senate to serve as the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Florida in August 2018. In that role, Serralta was responsible for the "management, administration, and direction of operations" across nine counties including Miami-Dade and Broward.

Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott also congratulated Serralta on Friday.

"Great to see President Trump appoint Gadyaces Serralta to lead the U.S. Marshals Service," Scott said. "Gadyaces did an incredible job as the Marshal of the Southern District of Florida over the past 6 years and joins a growing list of well-qualified Floridians on the President’s team."

Serralta began his law enforcement career with the Miami-Dade Police Department in 1990. His career included working as a Major until 2015 and as a Patrol Officer and Sergeant with its Criminal Street Gangs Unit and Organized Crime Section.

He also served as a Lieutenant of Robbery Intervention and Narcotics Detail before becoming Major.

Serralta graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Studies from Florida International University. He later earned a Master of Science in Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Editors note: A report lists Serralta as a commander of the Palmetto Bay Policing Unit. He is listed as Police Chief by the U.S. Marshals Service

MIAMI - Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott endorsed businessman and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy in his expected run for governor of Ohio on Monday.

"I’ve had the privilege of working closely with @VivekGRamasway and he is totally focused on trying to save our country," Scott said. "He is a business guy who understands what’s needed to grow jobs, make government efficient and help families prosper. "He would be a fantastic Governor and I hope he runs for Governor of Ohio. If he runs, he has my full support and endorsement."

Vivek Ramaswamy, 39, was born in Cincinnati and most recently a part of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Trump administration with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

A Trump ally, Ramaswamy rose to prominence during the Republican primary debates where he often clashed with former UN ambassador Nikki Haley and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

He also attacked the mainstream media and molded himself as a "political outsider", much to the blueprint of Trump. Ramaswamy eventually suspended his presidential campaign after a disappointing performance in the Iowa caucuses and endorsed Trump for president.

Ramaswamy will look to succeed Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, who is term-limited and cannot run for re-election. The Ohio gubernatorial election is set for Nov. 3, 2026.

He also was briefly considered to fill Ohio's Senate seat previously held by Vice President J.D. Vance. Dewine eventually appointed Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted to the seat last week.

Moving forward, Ramaswamy has reportedly landed advisors in Vance's political team for his soon-to-be gubernatorial run. Both Ramaswamy and Vance are said to have a long-term friendship.

Other candidates announced in the governor's race include Ohio Republican Attorney General David Yost, Republican Treasurer Robert Sprague, and former Democrat Health Director Amy Acton.

Before politics, Ramaswamy graduated from Cincinnati's St. Xavier High School. He then attended Harvard University and later earned a degree from Yale Law School.

If successful in the Republican primary, Ramaswamy could be favored as the next governor of the Buckeye State. Ohio has elected two straight Republican Governors and went for President Trump by 11 points in the 2024 general election.

Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Rick Scott (R-FL), and others have introduced the Protecting Military Installations and Ranges Act, a bill designed to restrict the purchases of property near U.S. Military lands by hostile foreign governments. Specifically, the legislation restricts the purchase of certain property by a foreign person acting for or on behalf of Russia, Communist China, Iran, or North Korea.

The legislators that have co-sponsored the bill alongside Sen. Scott include Senators Ted Budd (R-NC), Katie Britt (R-AL), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), and Tom Cotton (R-AR).

Sen. Cruz mentioned that hostile foreign nations have taken advantage of "loopholes" in the system to acquire lands adjacent to U.S. military installations and that the Protecting Military Installations and Ranges Act closes these loopholes.

“Foreign adversaries are exploiting loopholes to acquire land near our military bases and training routes, jeopardizing the safety of our troops and the integrity of our operations," said Sen. Cruz. I am proud to introduce this legislation, which will block our adversaries from acquiring assets that could undermine our defense. I urge the Senate to expeditiously take it up and pass it.”

Moreover, Sen. Scott shared that it is the federal government's duty to enact legislation such as this to protect the United States' military, and by proxy, its people.

“The federal government has a duty to protect the American people and our military bases from espionage and terrorist attacks, especially in the face of threats from Russian, Chinese, North Korean and Iranian state actors," said Sen. Scott. "These are known enemies who want to bring harm upon America and our way of life – they have no business owning land anywhere near our military bases or sensitive air spaces. This is a no-brainer. It’s time to put America first and pass this good bill.”

According to Sen. Scott's press release, the Protecting Military Installations and Rangers Act would accomplish the following:

  • Expand the jurisdiction of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to include real estate investments in the U.S. by entities linked to China, Russia, Iran, or North Korea, if the investments are located within 100 miles of a military installation or 50 miles of a military training route, special use airspace, controlled firing area, or military operations area.
  • The Department of Defense (DOD) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) would be prohibited from issuing final determinations regarding specified projects that involve a transaction under review by the committee until the committee has concluded its review.

A bipartisan group of House members have reintroduced a bill raising the U.S. Department of Justice's bounty on Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro to $100 million.

Florida Reps. Carlos Gimenez (R), Darren Soto (D), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D), María Elvira Salazar (R), Mario Díaz-Balart (R), and New Jersey Rep. Chris Smith (R) have joined forces to reintroduce the bill. The increase in funds is from assets that have been seized from Maduro and his regime.

News of the effort comes after Maduro took the oath of office in front of Venezuela's National Assembly, effectively securing another term in office despite mounting evidence that he lost the election last year to Edmundo González Urrutia. Urrutia also recently took a trip to the Capitol, meeting with lawmakers and encouraging pushback against the Maduro regime.

In a statement, Rep. Wasserman Schultz explained that "increasing the reward that leads to Maduro's conviction will reinforce the actions taken by the Biden-Harris Administration to target the criminal enterprise behind Venezuela's election theft and the violent repression of its people." "The Biden-Harris White House marshaled swift international pressure onto the Maduro regime, expanding existing sanctions, and rallied global support around the reality that Edmundo González won in a landslide."

Rep. Díaz-Balart countered the praise of the Biden-Harris Administration, arguing that the incumbent's "appeasement" has only emboldened the Maduro regime.

"The decision to weaken sanctions has jeopardized our national security and empowered a regime closely allied with dangerous adversaries like Russia, Iran, Cuba, and the People's Republic of China," he said in a statement.

Looking forward to the incoming Trump Administration, he warned that "the days of impunity are over. There will be severe consequences and accountability for the harm inflicted on the Venezuelan people."

The Senate companion was reintroduced by Florida Senator Rick Scott (R), Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R), and Louisiana Rep. Bill Cassidy (R).

After the horrific terror attack in New Orleans on the famed Bourbon Street, where a man, identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, drove into a crowd, killing 15 and injuring 35, several of Florida's Congressional delegation members reacted to the news on X (formerly Twitter), offering their prayers for the victims.

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) said that he and his wife Ann "are praying for those who lost their lives or were injured and their families," adding that he was "heartbroken."

Similarly, Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) also said he and his wife Erika are praying for the victims, going further to say, "We stand with the City of New Orleans and law enforcement as they investigate this heinous act of evil. This never should have happened. The safety and security of the American people must be our TOP PRIORITY."

In addition to offering his prayers, Representative Neal Dunn (R-FL) thanked the first responders "for their dedication and heroism."

Representative Vern Buchanan's (R-FL) post implored his followers to pray with him and his wife, Sandy. Also, it commended the first responders at the scene of the attack, which he condemned as a "horrific and senseless act of terrorism."

Finally, Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), like Rep. Donalds, said, "This was a horrible tragedy that should have never happened!"

The perpetrator of the attack, Shamsud Din Jabbar, has been identified as a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran and was found with an Islamic State (ISIS) flag in his truck. Recent reports suggest he coordinated with other unknown individuals, who had supposedly planted explosives throughout New Orleans' French Quarter for a larger attack.

President-elect Donald Trump, in his initial statement about the attack on Truth Social, appeared to believe Jabbar was an illegal alien, saying, "The criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country; that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the Fake News Media, but it turned out to be true. The crime rate in our country is at a level that nobody has ever seen before. Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department."

Patronis Calls Fried an 'Enemy of Freedom' https://floridianpress.com/2024/12/patronis-calls-fried-an-enemy-of-freedom/ Mon, 30 Dec 2024 21:01:58 +0000 https://floridianpress.com/?p=69083 Jimmy PatronisFlorida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis (R) instead argues that Chair Fried is an "enemy of freedom."

The post Patronis Calls Fried an 'Enemy of Freedom' appeared first on The Floridian.

If the Democratic Party had any influence on Florida, it's almost all but gone after the 2024 election. This has resulted in Florida growing more red and Democrats across the country deciding to switch parties. Despite this, Democrats like Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried (D) believes that the party is poised for a comeback, arguing that Floridians will be subjected to "authoritarian" control under the Republican Party. Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis (R) instead argues that Chair Fried is an "enemy of freedom."

The back and forth between the two began after POLITICO published an article claiming that "Democrats have a Florida problem." Noting that Florida was cemented red and that Democrats are struggling to appeal to voters, the article argues that "voters were deeply concerned about immigration, inflation and the economy."

Responding to the article, Florida Senator Rick Scott (R), who won his reelection bid against former Florida Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D), attributed the significant GOP win to a rejection of socialism.

On social media, Senator Scott posited that "Florida is RED and is the best example of what happens when government gets out of the way so families can thrive."

Chair Fried quickly responded to the claim, saying that Democrats and Republicans can agree that "no one wants socialism, everyone wants less Government." However, she accused Senator Scott of "lying & cheating," adding that the GOP "has been enacting more laws and more regulations, stripping freedoms and acting like authoritarian thugs."

This in turn drew a response from Patronis, who's currently seeking the House seat that former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) vacated earlier this year.

On social media, Patronis questioned, "so, Nikki Fried wanted to open the border and allow drugs and killers to flow in our country and now we are supposed to believe she is concerned about freedom?" "What a joke."

"We can only be free when we are safe and the leader of the party allowing murders to stream into the US (sometimes via federally funded flights) is an enemy of freedom indeed," he added.

President-elect Donald Trump (R) has appointed yet another Floridian to his administration. On Christmas Day, the president-elect announced that he had appointed Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera to serve as the ambassador to Panama.

Commissioner Cabrera’s appointment comes after the president-elect suggested that the United States should take control of the Panama Canal. Over the weekend, the president-elect had first entertained the idea, claiming that Panama is “ripping off” American ships going through its waterway.

With the commissioner’s appointment, President-elect Trump affirmed that the commissioner would be promoting the “MAGA agenda” in Panama. Commissioner Cabrera had previously served as the Florida State Director of President-elect Trump’s 2020 campaign.

The president-elect also shared that “few understand Latin American politics as well as Kevin,” and the incoming president isn’t the only political figure that’s singing praises of the Miami-Dade commissioner.

Also celebrating Commissioner Cabrera’s appointment is Florida Senator Rick Scott (R), who took to social media to call him a “fantastic Floridian."

Calling Commissioner Cabrera “another great pick,” the Florida senator shared that he previously worked with the commissioner, writing that he’s “seen firsthand how much he cares about Floridians and the future of our country, as well as freedom in Latin America.”

“The U.S. and Panama have a unique relationship and I know Kevin will represent our interests as well as Ambassador,” Senator Scott added.

President-elect Trump posted a Christmas message on social media, accusing Chinese soldiers of illegally operating in the Panama Canal as well as claiming that U.S. ships are being charged excessive fees for passing through its key waterway.

Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino responded to President-elect Trump’s claims over the weekend, commenting that “the sovereignty and independence of our country is non-negotiable.” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also weighed in on the issue, supporting the Panamanian government earlier this week.

“Indeed, the Panama Canal belongs to the Panamanians,” President Sheinbaum said during a press conference.
