President Donald Trump recently designated sundry drug cartels operating in Mexico as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO).

Designating the cartels as FTOs was one of President Trump’s campaign promises, and it was something conservatives had long urged former President Joe Biden to do to no avail.

The cartels designated are Tren de Aragua, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), Cártel de Sinaloa, Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación, Cártel del Noreste (formerly Los Zetas), La Nueva Familia Michoacana, Cártel de Golfo (Gulf Cartel), and Cárteles Unidos.

The FTO designation expands financial sanctions against the cartels and authorizes the use of military force against them.

Elon Musk took to social media to speak about the designation, alleging it could result in “drone strikes” against the cartels.

The use of military force against cartels operating in Mexico is unlikely, however, as Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum has opposed the idea and criticized it as a violation of Mexico’s sovereignty.

"The Mexican people will not accept under any circumstances interventions, interference or any other act from abroad that could be harmful to the integrity, independence and sovereignty of the nation," said President Sheinbaum.

Sheinbaum also claimed she would study the possibility of erecting constitutional reforms to further protect Mexico’s sovereignty.

State Department Secretary Marco Rubio explained the FTO designation is intended to “protect our nation, the American people, and our hemisphere.”

“That means stopping the campaigns of violence and terror by these vicious groups both in the United States and internationally,” said Secretary Rubio. “These designations provide law enforcement additional tools to stop these groups.”

Tren de Aragua, MS-13, and the Sinaloa cartels are perhaps the most infamous groups, especially given their increased activity in the US during President Biden’s administration.

Biden took certain actions against the cartels, such as designating Tren de Aragua as a transnational criminal organization (TCO).

Tren de Aragua is Venezuela’s largest gang with an estimated 5,000 members and has recently been linked to numerous criminal investigations in the US and Mexico.

Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) discussed President Donald Trump's tariffs on countries such as Mexico, Canada, and China in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Mornings with Maria. He said the United States should 'decouple' from China, which he acknowledged would be difficult but ultimately better for the U.S.

Rep. Gimenez praised the imposition of tariffs on Mexico, which was designed to force border security cooperation. President Trump ultimately paused after he spoke with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Sheinbaum agreed to send 10,000 troops to the border to counter fentanyl trafficking. At the same time, the American soldiers stationed there would work to prevent arms trafficking into Mexico, pausing the tariffs' implementation for one month.

Regarding China, Rep. Gimenez said he "always thought we need to decouple," adding that "we are funding the instrument of our own demise" otherwise.

"I am very happy with the tariffs imposed on China as we push ourselves and try to wean ourselves from China because, again, every single dollar that we send to China is used against us, and they are the greatest adversary that we are facing right now and in the future, and we cannot help them overcome us either economically or militarily," the Florida Congressman continued.

Host Maria Bartiromo asked Gimenez about the potential impact of "decoupling" from the Chinese, which she warned could be "disruptive" due to the many cheap goods the U.S. imports.

"I never said it was going to be easy," the Florida Congressman replied, "but it took us 30 years to get to this point."

"We need to start to onshore or nearshore, or have those [Chinese-made] products be made by people that are our friends and not our enemies," Gimenez continued, comparing our reliance on China to an addiction.

"When you try to get out of an addiction, it is never easy. We just need to start doing it because if not, we are funding the instrument of our own demise," he reiterated.

While the Florida State Legislature is enduring a power struggle over immigration, the Peach State appears to have a more concrete plan in alignment with President Donald Trump's (R) administration. Georgia Lt. Governor Burt Jones (R), the President of the Georgia State Senate, announced a war on fentanyl in lockstep with President Trump's administration. The Georgia Lt. Gov has introduced the Fentanyl Eradication and Removal Act for the 2025 legislative session, with State Senator Russ Goodman (R-GA) sponsoring the legislation establishing "stiffer criminal penalties for fentanyl offenses."

The optics of this in comparison to Florida's current situation might have seemed confusing to residents of both states just a few years ago. While the hatchet seems to have been mostly buried, President Trump and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) have had a history that includes name-calling and accusations of RINO (Republican In Name Only) status.

However, it appears those fences have been mended.

Critics of Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) would argue, "Well, at least Gov. Kemp didn't try to run against President Trump in 2024." But as of now, it doesn't seem DeSantis is necessarily not in good graces with Trump either. Trump did in fact thank DeSantis for calling the Jan. 27 special session to address illegal immigration; a session that the state legislature gaveled in, gaveled out, and gaveled back into their own session.

Therefore, the disunity in the Florida GOP isn't really about Trump at all. But it is creating a roadblock to the efficiency and efficacy of the Trump agenda. Who's to blame for it is a matter of opinion.

Nevertheless, it appears the Republicans in Georgia are mostly unified around a concrete effort to help the Trump administration combat fentanyl trafficking in Georgia, and that is what Lt. Gov. Burt Jones is attempting to address.

Georgia's Lt. Gov. shared that this initiative will build upon the previous year's efforts in the state upper chamber and address fentanyl pushers "to the fullest extent of the law" in the Peach State.

“This Act continues efforts the Senate led on in 2024 to address fentanyl deaths in Georgia, with the passage of Austin’s Law. The proposed legislation complements our ongoing priority to combat opioid abuse across the state and to hold those who poison our communities with illicit substances like fentanyl accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Many of these criminals are bringing this poison across the border illegally," said the Georgia Lt. Gov.

Jones continued, stating that President Donald Trump's (R) administration will help Georgia "fight back" against this crisis.

"Georgia will continue to fight back. With the support of President Trump and the new Administration working tirelessly to secure the border, this is a fight we can and must win. This legislation and the enforcement of ‘Austin’s Law’ will help to prevent the senseless deaths of Georgians," concluded Jones.

According to Lt. Gov. Jones' press release, the Fentanyl Eradication and Removal Act was filed with the Secretary of Senate’s Office on Monday. The bill removes fentanyl from Georgia’s current statutes relating to possessing, selling, distributing, manufacturing, and trafficking opiates and creates a separate schedule of offenses specific to fentanyl and its related substances. The bill would go into effect on July 1, 2025, and would apply to criminal offenses committed on or after that date.

This move from the Lt. Gov. comes as the Trump administration is attempting to crack down on fentanyl from both the southern border with Mexico and the northern border with Canada.

After threatening tariffs with the two nations, President Trump received concessions from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. They both agreed to put approximately 10,000 troops on their respective borders and the Canadians will put forth over $1 billion toward border enforcement.

President Donald Trump has temporarily suspended planned tariffs on Mexico and Canada after the latter two agreed to some of the former’s terms on immigration, border, and trade.

President Trump announced the tariff’s suspension via Truth Social, where he claimed Mexico and Canada had agreed to implement a series of measures addressing various issues but mostly focused on border enforcement.

As reported by The Floridian’s Jackson Bakich, Trump announced Mexico will supply 10,000 troops to the border in an attempt to curb the influx of drug trafficking (specifically fentanyl).

The United States agreed to prevent "high-powered weapons" trafficking south.

Meanwhile, Canada allegedly promised to execute a $1.3 Billion Border plan including 10,000 personnel that will expand Canada’s border enforcement activities.

Additionally, Trump stated Canada would be “reinforcing the Border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl.”

Tariffs on Canada and Mexico will be suspended for 30 days, during which Trump’s administration will negotiate with the two countries in an attempt to improve the US’ trading position.

Trump’s negotiating team will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who recently proved his negotiating prowess as he scored concessions from Panama regarding Chinese influence over the Panama Canal

Trump has repeatedly promised, both during his presidential campaign and first days in office, that he will use tariffs against Canada, Mexico, and other countries he feels are “out of line” with the US.

The suspension of tariffs is only a partial one, however, as Trump had also promised 10% tariffs on Chinese imports which have not been suspended.

Trump cited the Chinese Communist Party’s alleged inaction over Chinese-led illegal fentanyl trafficking as motivating the tariffs.

“Chinese officials have failed to take the actions necessary to stem the flow of precursor chemicals to known criminal cartels and shut down money laundering by transnational criminal organizations,” reads Trump’s tariff-imposing executive order.

President Donald Trump (R) has announced that a deal has been brokered between the United States and Mexico to lift their competing tariffs against each other. As part of the agreement, Mexico will supply 10,000 troops to the border in an attempt to curb the influx of drug trafficking (specifically fentanyl). The United States has agreed to prevent "high-powered weapons" trafficking south.

The agreement is good for one month.

Here is President Trump's statement that he released on Truth Social, mentioning former Senator and current Secretary of State Marco Rubio's involvement in the deal:

"I just spoke with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico. It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican Soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States. These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country. We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico. I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a 'deal' between our two Countries."

Vice President J.D. Vance (R) was proud and gloated over the likely success of the deal despite previous political blowback that the Trump administration received over the tariffs. Opponents of the move have argued that foreign tariffs would only affect American citizens.

VP Vance believes this deal puts that criticism to bed, asking, "How do you like them apples?"

"For three days a lot of the far left has actively rooted against America and argued we’d get nothing out of President Trunp’s demands that Mexico secure its country. Well, how do you like them apples?" said VP Vance.

This deal between the countries evades a 25% tariff that the United States was going to enforce on Tuesday. At the time of writing, the United States is also set to levy tariffs on Canada and China on Tuesday as well. President Trump will to talk to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau later Monday afternoon.

President-elect Donald Trump (R) has appointed yet another Floridian to his administration. On Christmas Day, the president-elect announced that he had appointed Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera to serve as the ambassador to Panama.

Commissioner Cabrera’s appointment comes after the president-elect suggested that the United States should take control of the Panama Canal. Over the weekend, the president-elect had first entertained the idea, claiming that Panama is “ripping off” American ships going through its waterway.

With the commissioner’s appointment, President-elect Trump affirmed that the commissioner would be promoting the “MAGA agenda” in Panama. Commissioner Cabrera had previously served as the Florida State Director of President-elect Trump’s 2020 campaign.

The president-elect also shared that “few understand Latin American politics as well as Kevin,” and the incoming president isn’t the only political figure that’s singing praises of the Miami-Dade commissioner.

Also celebrating Commissioner Cabrera’s appointment is Florida Senator Rick Scott (R), who took to social media to call him a “fantastic Floridian."

Calling Commissioner Cabrera “another great pick,” the Florida senator shared that he previously worked with the commissioner, writing that he’s “seen firsthand how much he cares about Floridians and the future of our country, as well as freedom in Latin America.”

“The U.S. and Panama have a unique relationship and I know Kevin will represent our interests as well as Ambassador,” Senator Scott added.

President-elect Trump posted a Christmas message on social media, accusing Chinese soldiers of illegally operating in the Panama Canal as well as claiming that U.S. ships are being charged excessive fees for passing through its key waterway.

Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino responded to President-elect Trump’s claims over the weekend, commenting that “the sovereignty and independence of our country is non-negotiable.” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also weighed in on the issue, supporting the Panamanian government earlier this week.

“Indeed, the Panama Canal belongs to the Panamanians,” President Sheinbaum said during a press conference.

China is supposedly studying Russia's ability to dodge Western sanctions ahead of a theoretical invasion of Taiwan. However, Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) suggested in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Big Money Show that it was nothing more than "saber-rattling," both because of differing economic circumstances between China and Russia and because President-elect Donald Trump is returning to the White House in January.

The Wall Street Journal noted that Beijing's studying of Russia's sanctions dodging does not mean they will invade Taiwan, but instead is "preparing for the "extreme scenario" of an armed conflict and its economic repercussions."

One angle China is seeking is to diversify stockpiles through assets not using the U.S. Dollar, a tactic Russia has used to keep its economy relatively stable despite the imposition of sanctions by the West.

As a result, Rep. Mills said in his Big Money Show appearance that "sanctions can be effective when they have teeth and they are enforceable. A lot of times, the sanctions that America puts in place do not actually have the ability to enforce anything."

However, he also noted, "Russia's economics are very different than China's, especially when we went to China as a preferred vendor, and so I do not think that they can necessarily take the same model."

"And I think that they are kind of [doing] a little bit kind of saber-rattling right now because they understand that President Trump is going to do very similar things to the China Phase One deal when he was in office that helped our agricultural sector," Rep. Mills continued.

The Florida Congressman referred to the 2020 Phase One trade deal, which was hammered out amidst a trade war between the United States and China when President Trump imposed duties and tariffs on Chinese imports.

As a result, Mills seemed to suggest that China's "idea that they are going to somehow mimic Russia, knowing that a large majority of their economics actually comes out of the United States and would not cover their 1.4 billion people who are sitting there with regards to [Gross Domestic Product (GDP)]," was doomed to fail.

The incoming Trump Administration made headlines last week when they threatened to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada for the ongoing border crisis, with Mexico's Claudia Sheinbaum ultimately agreeing to stop the flow of migrants in a meeting with President-elect Trump.

President-elect Donald Trump’s recent tariff threats to Mexico and Canada over illegal immigration and fentanyl trafficking seem to have spurred both nations to attempt to negotiate and appease President Trump’s desires.

Trump promised he would “sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States” until “such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reportedly called Trump immediately following his tariff announcement to discuss the issue.

While Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum initially criticized Trump’s proposed tariffs and threatened to respond by levying tariffs on American exports to the US, she later called Trump to assure him of Mexico’s policies for combating unlawful migration and drug trafficking.

President Sheinbaum claimed her conversation with Trump was “excellent.”

“We discussed Mexico’s strategy for illegal immigration and I shared that migrant caravans are not reaching the US border because they are being dealt with in Mexico,” added Sheinbaum.

Trump also commented on his call with Sheinbaum via Truth Social.

“Just had a wonderful conversation with the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo,” said Trump. “She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border.”

https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/113557687421746022

However, Sheinabum later contradicted Trump’s last claim, stating that, as she explained to Trump, Mexico is halting illegal immigration but that the Mexican strategy is “not to close borders but to build bridges between governments and peoples.”

Trump did not respond to Sheinbaum’s last comments.

Earlier this week, Trump also pledged to expand tariffs on China for complaints similarly related to fentanyl.

“I have had many talks with China about the massive amounts of drugs, in particular Fentanyl, being sent into the United States – But to no avail,” said Trump.

Consequently, Trump stated the US ”will be charging China an additional 10% Tariff, above any additional Tariffs, on all of their many products coming into the United States of America.”

Throughout Thanksgiving week, President-elect Donald Trump (R) has threatened the nations of Mexico and Canada with 25% tariffs, citing illegal immigration concerns from both countries. However, President-elect Trump shared that his recent “wonderful” conversation with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum brought solutions to the table surrounding the migrant crisis at the southern border. Recently, President Sheinbaum threatened to respond with tariffs of her own, perhaps bringing both sides to converse rather quickly.

In a social media post on Truth Social, President-elect Trump stated that President Sheinbaum has agreed to stop migration via Mexico.

“Just had a wonderful conversation with the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border,” said Trump on Truth Social. “We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs. It was a very productive conversation!”

Moreover, the incoming United States president added that the actions from the Mexican president will “go a long way” towards curbing the influx of illegal migrants into the U.S.

“Mexico will stop people from going to our Southern Border, effective immediately. THIS WILL GO A LONG WAY TOWARD STOPPING THE ILLEGAL INVASION OF THE USA. Thank you!!!” said Trump.

Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) recently said Trump has "the greatest presidential mandate" to carry out in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Kudlow, chastising blue state governors and mayors for their plans to oppose Trump's border agenda.

"Donald Trump has a mandate. He has the greatest presidential mandate, probably since Reagan in 1984. So, to have these blue state governors and these blue city mayors decide that they are going to interpret federal law how they see fit in the face of Donald Trump's overwhelming victory is egregious. But who really suffers are the good people who live in these cities and live in these states. They are American citizens. They deserve to be protected," Rep. Donalds declared.

From there, the Florida Congressman asked if these blue states and cities should continue to receive federal funding if they oppose Trump's agenda.

The Florida congressman said American taxpayer dollars should be used to enforce the law.

"Federal dollars do not belong to any one state or any one city. It comes from the pockets of the American people,” said Rep. Donalds. “And if dollars are going to be going to municipalities and to states, the least they can do is follow the law and help President Trump uphold the law."

President Trump will serve a second non-consecutive term beginning on January 20.

Mexican and Canadian officials are reacting to President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement he will be imposing 25% tariffs on all Canadian and Mexican goods until the flow of illegal immigrants and fentanyl ceases.

President-elect Trump promised he would “sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States” until “such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!”

Trump is using the tariffs to compel Mexico and Canada to action, as he believes “both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily solve” the illegal immigration and fentanyl trafficking problem.

Canada and Mexico have each responded to Trump’s threats in conciliatory and confrontational fashion, respectively.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reportedly called Trump immediately following his tariff announcement to discuss the issue.

“We talked about how the intense and effective connections between our two countries flow back and forth,” said Prime Minister Trudeau. “We talked about some of the challenges that we can work on together.”

Conversely, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized Trump’s proposed tariffs and threatened to respond by levying tariffs on American exports to the US.

“One tariff will be followed by another in response,” said President Sheinbaum in a letter she sent to Trump urging him to abandon his tariffs proposal.

“Migration and fentanyl consumption will not be addressed with threats or tariffs,” continued Sheinbaum via X. “Mexico is moving forward with results in comprehensive actions; cooperation and understanding are necessary. Dialogue is the way forward.”

Sheinbaum concluded her letter to Trump by expressing a desire for the US and Mexico to negotiate a path out of initiating a tit-for-tat tariff war between the two countries.

General Motors, Stellantis, and Ford Motors, all major exporters to the US from Mexico, are reporting losses in the stock market following Trump and Sheinbaum’s exchange.

Earlier this week, Trump also pledged to expand tariffs on China for complaints similarly related to fentanyl.

“I have had many talks with China about the massive amounts of drugs, in particular Fentanyl, being sent into the United States – But to no avail,” said Trump. “Representatives of China told me that they would institute their maximum penalty, that of death, for any drug dealers caught doing this but, unfortunately, they never followed through, and drugs are pouring into our Country, mostly through Mexico, at levels never seen before.”

Consequently, Trump stated the US ”will be charging China an additional 10% Tariff, above any additional Tariffs, on all of their many products coming into the United States of America.”

President-elect Donald Trump (R) has not been shy about his intention to implement tariffs against China, Canada, and Mexico. This week, he once again reiterated that he would be implementing aggressive tariffs against Mexico on "Day One," and this announcement has drawn a swift response from Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico's president. Florida Rep. Carlos Giménez (R) backs the sweeping tariffs, applauding the "bold action" from the president.

In a video released on social media, the Florida lawmaker shared his approval of implementing aggressive tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico in order to curb the flow of illegal immigration and address the rising fentanyl crisis.

"I applaud President Trump's announcement of new tariffs on Mexico and Canada in order to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States and also to stem the flow of fentanyl that's been killing tens of thousands of Americans for a number of years," he expressed. "Finally, somebody's taking some bold action.

President Trump suggested that he would impose a 25 percent tax on imported goods from Mexico if Mexico didn't stop the flow of drugs coming across the border. However, President Sheinbaum responded to the threat, saying that the tariffs could negatively impact U.S. automakers with plants that are on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

In a press conference, President Sheinbaum said, "We have always expressed Mexico's willingness to prevent the ongoing fentanyl epidemic in the United States, which is a problem of public health and consumption in your country's society." "One tariff would be followed by another in response, and so on until we put at risk common businesses," she added.

Rep. Giménez however believes that the country should be more aggressive with Mexico, adding that we should pressure the country to stop funding Cuba and its authoritarian regime.

"I would also like the president to add as one of his conditions that Mexico stop sending aid and oil to Cuba, propping up that murderous regime in Havana. The people of Cuba deserve liberty, freedom," he suggested in the video released on social media.

Hurricane Milton: Catastrophic

The time is up for Floridians to evacuate. Hurricane Milton has shifted south with landfall expected to be somewhere just south of Tampa.

As of 4 am, the Category 5 storm has 160 mph winds and is moving ESE at 12 mph.

All of the tracks have Hurricane Milton making landfall in the Tampa Bay area, but the storm could shift further south and open up Southeast Florida to hurricane-force winds.

There are approximately 37,000 linemen ready to help restore electricity.

Miami International Airport is the only major airport fully open, but that could all change if Milton shifts further south.

Ron DeSantis-As of this afternoon, Hurricane Milton has strengthened into a major Category 5 hurricane. Evacuations are underway, and we have suspended tolls and opened roadway shoulders to make it easier for Floridians to get to safety. You do not need to travel hundreds of miles from home to evacuate safely—every county has pet-friendly shelters, special needs shelters, and other options that are safe from storm surge.

The State of Florida continues to fulfill requests from communities in the potential path of Hurricane Milton as we prepare for landfall. Hundreds of first responders will be embedded in potential impact sites along Florida’s west coast to begin search and rescue operations as soon as the storm passes. Power restoration resources are being marshaled in advance of this storm, including 30,000 linemen who are coming to Florida from all over the country.

FL Division of Emergency Management-10/6: As you enact your emergency plans in preparation for Hurricane #Milton, be cautious of heavy rain & flooded roadways!

Flood watches are in effect across the FL Peninsula, so residents need to have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts & never drive in floodwaters.

FL Division of Emergency Management-It's NEVER safe to stay in your manufactured/mobile home during a hurricane!

Hurricane #Milton is expected to bring life threatening conditions.

FLORIDA DOT-ESU CORRIDORS IMPLEMENTED TO FACILITATE EVACUTION TRAFFIC: FDOT continues to monitor traffic conditions along Emergency Shoulder Use (ESU) routes throughout the state as residents evacuate from #HurricaneMilton’s projected path. Although traffic is heavy and at slower speeds, traffic is still flowing and moving as intended. With both directions open to motorists on these corridors, we can ensure that supplies, emergency services, and utility crews can make their way to potentially-impacted areas – an important benefit for this type of evacuation traffic pattern.

AG Ashley Moody-Lori Collins and her team at the Pinellas County Citizen Information Center are taking calls about local evacuation orders and other Hurricane #Milton related matters. If you live in Pinellas County and have questions, you can call the center at (727) 464-4333.

Jimmy Patronis-The State Fire Marshal’s Office cross checked EV/Hybrid registrations with storm surge forecasts, and Florida has over 55 K vehicles at risk of storm surge from Milton. Saltwater and lithium-ion batteries don’t mix! If you can, move your car to higher ground.

Wilton Simpson-Florida Forest Service has deployed debris removal operations in Tampa Bay. FFS is supporting @MyFDOT

and Pinellas County with 10 dump trucks, 1 loader, personnel on the ground. These critical missions will help limit damage from flying projectiles once Hurricane Milton arrives.

Florida: A Constant State in Emergency

After enduring a massive blow from Hurricane Helene, Florida will now weather another body blow from Hurricane Milton

Floridians just can't catch a break.

Governor Ron DeSantis gave a dire warning to all Floridians after Hurricane Milton was forecast to hit Florida mid-week

"Florida is preparing for significant impacts from Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall as a major hurricane on Florida’s west coast by mid-week. Impacts will be felt across the Florida peninsula, as Milton is forecasted to exit Florida’s east coast as a hurricane.

Do not get wedded to the cone. Floridians should prepare now for potential impacts, even if you live outside of the forecast cone. We recommend following all evacuation orders from your local officials."

The storm is currently a Category 1 with 100 mph sustained winds and moving ESE at 8mph.

The forecast has it making landfall in the Tampa Bay area, but the storm could dip just south to cause major problems for Broward and Miami-Dade Counties.

Meanwhile, lawmakers are pressing the federal government to move quicker in reimbursing local governments after Hurricane Helene and other natural disasters impacted the country...READ MORE

Ron DeSantis- The Florida National Guard, Florida State Guard, FDOT, and FHP are all hands on deck to supplement local debris removal in preparation for Hurricane Milton.

Additionally, the Division of Emergency Management is coordinating with local emergency management directors to inform them that debris waste and landfill sites have been ordered to remain open 24/7.

Debris removal must be done 24/7, around the clock. This process cannot be a 9 to 5 job, and we expect local governments and their contractors to show up.

Rick Scott-MILTON RESPONSE UPDATE: Led a letter with @SenMarcoRubio urging @POTUS to immediately approve Florida’s request for a pre-landfall emergency declaration for 51 Florida counties as Hurricane #Milton is forecast to become a major hurricane and bring severe weather and flooding to communities throughout Florida.

President Joe Biden’s administration is seeking to bolster US-Mexico relations as Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s first ever woman president, was sworn into office.

First lady Jill Biden led the US’ delegation to President Sheinbaum’s inauguration.

Sheinbaum won the last presidential elections by a wide margin, gathering nearly 60% of the votes.

“Jill and I extend our heartfelt congratulations to President Claudia Sheinbaum on her inauguration,” reads an official White House statement. “The United States is committed to continuing to work with Mexico to deliver the democratic, prosperous, and secure future that the people of our two countries deserve.”

Sheinbaum has been a polarizing figure in the United States, however, with conservative legislators wary of her socialist policies and affinity with Venezuelan Dictator Nicolas Maduro.

Sheinbaum, who is the former mayor of Mexico City, is a member of the progressive Morena party and viewed as a mentee of current President Manuel Lopez Obrador.

According to the Wilson Center, Morena defends policies associated with hard left-wing parties, such as energy nationalization, welfare, and LGBTQ initiatives.

Morena has captured the reins of Mexican society, controlling Congress, the Executive, and two-thirds of all the country’s governorships.

Consequently, American lawmakers are preparing for a new Mexican government led by Sheinbaum that will most likely reflect the policies of her predecessor.

Sheinbaum, who will now lead Morena, has previously raised eyebrows with her past actions and statements, drawing comparisons with socialist authoritarian figures.

Specifically, Sheinbaum has been publicly gracious and friendly towards Dictator Maduro, stirring controversy for her relationship with the notorious Venezuelan dictator.

Sheinbaum has also clashed with former President Donald Trump.

President Trump and Sheinbaum’s confrontation occurred after Trump boasted of bringing Mexican officials to concede on border negotiations.

Similarly, Sheinbaum’s inauguration was shrouded in controversy, as the inauguration banned the king of Spain, a figure whose presence is a staple of latin american presidential inaugurations.

Sheinbaum banned the Spanish monarch for the latter’s refusal to respond to a request from the Mexican government to apologize for Spain’s colonial past in Mexico.
