Today, I filed a bill that allows counties and cities to give part of their property tax windfall back to YOU!

Byron Donalds-I arrived in the Sunshine State at 17 years old on a Greyhound bus, with a trunk full of clothes and a dream.

Now is the time to keep the best state in the country as the best state in the country.

Tonight, I am proud to announce my candidacy to be the next governor of Florida.

Erika Donalds-My husband @ByronDonalds

is the American dream personified.

Faith in God, grit, kindness, character & a heart of service brought him to this moment in history.

He was instrumental in Trump’s victory. Now he will faithfully steward Florida’s future.

I couldn’t be more proud.

Sen. Jason Pizzo-Not sure where the time went, but I’m sure of this - tonight, I said goodbye to a tough, brave and loyal young man, who will give the @USMC

his very best. He’s one of the few, and I’m one of the very proud. I love you, Jack.

Tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy recently announced his candidacy for Ohio’s governorship.

Ramaswamy's announcement comes as Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s term nears a close in January 2027.

Ramaswamy claimed during his candidacy announcement that he would focus his agenda on economic prosperity, promising to bring “a hatchet to red tape, overregulation and bureaucracy.”

President Donald Trump, who won Ohio by 10% in the presidential elections last November, quickly endorsed Ramaswamy.

“I know (Ramaswamy) well, competed against him, and he is something SPECIAL,” said President Trump via Truth Social. “He will be a GREAT Governor of Ohio, will never let you down, and has my COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT!”

Ramaswamy’s gubernatorial contenders include current Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, who has the support of many Republicans within Ohio politics.

Yost was elected to become Ohio’s Attorney General in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, earning more votes than any Attorney General in Ohio history.

The former Attorney General reportedly quickly attacked Ramaswamy after the latter’s campaign announcement.

“I welcome Mr. Ramaswamy to the race for however long he sticks around," said Yost. "We'll see if he actually stays in — Mr. Ramaswamy quit on President Trump and DOGE on day one, he quit on Ohio and moved his company to Texas, and he quit his presidential campaign after a devastating fourth-place finish in Iowa."

Yost has reportedly raised nearly $3 million dollars since announcing his candidacy, and his profound network of Republican supporters could make the Republican primaries a competitive race.

Yost’s vision for Ohio derives from his work as Attorney General, where he focused on judicious enforcement of the law, protecting individual liberties, preventing partisan lawfare, and creating a stable environment for economic growth.

Ramaswamy held a campaign rally shortly after his campaign announcement, where he gave more details on his plans for Ohio.

“We will lead Ohio to be the top state in the country where we lead the way in the sectors of the future, from semiconductors to aerospace,” promised Ramaswamy.

“I will lead Ohio to be the top state in the country, where patriots flock to instead of Florida and Texas,” continued Ramaswamy. “I will lead Ohio to be the state of excellence in America.”

As the Trump administration continues to mow down the excess spending within just about every government agency and firing apparent non-essential workers, there is no bigger agency that Americans would like its clock to be cleaned than the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The controversial Biden-era Inflation Reduction Act appropriated $80 billion of taxpayer dollars to hire 87,000 IRS agents, which the Republican-controlled House Oversight Committee was used to target Middle America.

One of the tasks that those new IRS agents were assigned was to be willing to use “deadly force” against citizens.

"Carry a firearm and be willing to use deadly force, if necessary," lists the IRS job duties.

Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) was one of the first lawmakers to outline the new IRS hires' dubious job duties.

President Donald Trump
President Donald Trump

Now that the newly-formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, looks to slash $2 trillion in government waste and cutting back on federal employees, Sen. Scott and other lawmakers continue to highlight the need to beatdown the IRS and help President Trump usher in the “Golden Age.”

“The Biden administration and Democrats weaponized the IRS to terrorize the American people and raise your taxes, hiring tens of thousands of employees to do so. President Trump is working to ensure the American people have a government that works for them, not against them, as he ushers the nation into its Golden Age,” said Sen. Scott in a statement to The Floridian.

Fellow Floridian and Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means and the Joint Committee on Taxation, Rep. Vern Buchanan (R), asserts that the IRS is not going after the “millionaires and billionaires” instead is most-likely to go after Americans who earn less than $25,000 a year.

“Despite Democrats’ claims that providing the IRS with a massive $80 billion windfall to hire an additional 87,000 agents and auditors would be used to go after millionaires and billionaires, the facts just don’t bear that out,” said Rep.Buchanan in a response for comment by The Floridian. In fact, households with less than $25,000 in annual earnings are five times more likely to be audited by the IRS than everyone else. And according to the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation, Congress’s official tax scorekeeper, 78 to 90 percent of the money raised from under-reported income would likely come from those making less than $200,000 a year.”

The IRS’ days could very well be numbered as a bicameral Republican effort to abolish the IRS was put forward when lawmakers introduced the Fair Tax Act of 2025 days before President Donald Trump took office.

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) joined 34 Republican senators, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) to introduce the “Main Street Tax Certainty Act” a bill that intends to make the 20 percent pass-through business tax deduction permanent. The legislation would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to make permanent the deduction for qualified business income.

Should these tax cuts expire, small businesses will face an immediate and massive tax hike, the GOP senators believe.

Sen. Scott shared that this effort will "turn the economy around" and support President Donald Trump's (R) agenda.

“During my time as Governor of Florida, I worked to cut taxes over 100 times to help businesses and families thrive, keep more of their hard-earned dollars and turn our entire economy around. President Trump is doing the same on the federal level, and he’s already making great progress on getting our economy back on track and reversing four years of Biden’s reckless policies," said Sen. Scott.

The former Florida governor added, "I’m proud to work with my colleagues to deliver on President Trump’s agenda with the Main Street Tax Certainty Act that continues a tax cut for our small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy.”

Moreover, Senate Majority Leader Thune stated that small businesses are the "economic engine" of the United States that must be protected before the Trump tax cuts potentially expire.

“Small businesses are the economic engine that drive growth and jobs in South Dakota and across our country," said Sen. Thune. "This legislation is critical to permanently extending a key provision from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and ensuring our small businesses and farms and ranches are not hit with a crippling tax hike at the end of 2025.”

Finally, Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), the bill's author, said that this legislation is "absolutely crucial" to shield small businesses from a major tax hike.

“As the son of a contractor, I’ve seen firsthand the hard work it takes to keep a small business flourishing- especially as Americans are still grappling with the effects of Joe Biden’s inflation," said Sen. Daines. "It’s absolutely crucial that we pass this legislation to prevent a 20 percent tax increase for hardworking Montanans and I’ll keep fighting for ways to support Montana small businesses, which provide the majority of jobs in our state.”

MIAMI - Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott endorsed businessman and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy in his expected run for governor of Ohio on Monday.

"I’ve had the privilege of working closely with @VivekGRamasway and he is totally focused on trying to save our country," Scott said. "He is a business guy who understands what’s needed to grow jobs, make government efficient and help families prosper. "He would be a fantastic Governor and I hope he runs for Governor of Ohio. If he runs, he has my full support and endorsement."

Vivek Ramaswamy, 39, was born in Cincinnati and most recently a part of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Trump administration with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

A Trump ally, Ramaswamy rose to prominence during the Republican primary debates where he often clashed with former UN ambassador Nikki Haley and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

He also attacked the mainstream media and molded himself as a "political outsider", much to the blueprint of Trump. Ramaswamy eventually suspended his presidential campaign after a disappointing performance in the Iowa caucuses and endorsed Trump for president.

Ramaswamy will look to succeed Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, who is term-limited and cannot run for re-election. The Ohio gubernatorial election is set for Nov. 3, 2026.

He also was briefly considered to fill Ohio's Senate seat previously held by Vice President J.D. Vance. Dewine eventually appointed Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted to the seat last week.

Moving forward, Ramaswamy has reportedly landed advisors in Vance's political team for his soon-to-be gubernatorial run. Both Ramaswamy and Vance are said to have a long-term friendship.

Other candidates announced in the governor's race include Ohio Republican Attorney General David Yost, Republican Treasurer Robert Sprague, and former Democrat Health Director Amy Acton.

Before politics, Ramaswamy graduated from Cincinnati's St. Xavier High School. He then attended Harvard University and later earned a degree from Yale Law School.

If successful in the Republican primary, Ramaswamy could be favored as the next governor of the Buckeye State. Ohio has elected two straight Republican Governors and went for President Trump by 11 points in the 2024 general election.

Representative Aaron Bean (R-FL) discussed working with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus and the lawsuit filed against it in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Varney & Co., saying it demonstrated that "the Swamp will not go quietly into the night."

The lawsuits were filed almost immediately after President Donald Trump was sworn into office. The main contention is that DOGE is not an official government organization.

CBS gave more details, describing how the National Security Counselors argued that DOGE is acting as a federal advisory committee without approval from the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA).

According to Skye Perryman, CEO of Democracy Forward, representing the National Security Counselors, "DOGE must not be allowed to operate in the shadows without the transparency, oversight, and opportunity for public participation required of any federal department by the law."

After all, no federal employees are part of DOGE, and its founders, Elon Musk and outgoing Vivek Ramaswamy, have engaged in private meetings that are not open to the public despite working within the federal government.

In comments to the Washington Post, Sam Hammond, a pro-DOGE senior economist at the Foundation for American Innovation, said that the supposed Department is "a branding exercise" and will work within the White House, exempting it from FACA regulations.

Nevertheless, Rep. Bean said that the lawsuit demonstrated that "the Swamp will not go quietly into the night," adding that "there are going to be more lawsuits" that he predicted "are already on their way to being dismissed."

"This is like eight years ago," the Florida Congressman continued, "Remember when Trump was there? Everything he did was challenged by multiple courts. But Trump is a new Trump. It is a Trump 2.0, it is a new version, and he is already outplaying [the Swamp] in the game of chess."

Moreover, Bean called it "exciting" to work with the DOGE Caucus, further saying, "We have told the parties on both sides that we will not agree on everything, but perhaps there are things we can agree on, and that is what we are focusing on as we go forward right now."

The Biden Administration has not held back on rulemaking and regulatory action in its final months, making sure to leave an imprint on every sector before President-elect Donald Trump assumes office for his second term. Recent actions by various bureaucrats and other functionaries of the administrative state in the waning days of the administration are nothing short of blatant government overreach.

In a push to cripple politically unfavorable sectors, the Biden administration has often targeted American oil and gas. Despite price pressures placed on inflation-weary consumers, Biden continues to push for a green energy transition, testing the limits of government authority.

Most recently, Biden issued an executive order banning new offshore drilling leases in large swaths of U.S. coastal waters. Prior to this, the Department of Energy placed a moratorium on new liquid natural gas (LNG) export permits, which threatens the economic well-being and energy security of the nation. This faced extensive bipartisan opposition and failed to hold up in court, but the Biden administration has continued to run out the clock on the legal process, appealing the ruling in clear opposition to the desires of the country.

In November, the Biden administration rushed through a study from the Department of Energy, in an attempt to make it more challenging for Trump to reverse Biden’s LNG ban. It is a clear example of how the federal government tries to weaponize bureaucratic “studies” to make claims supporting predetermined politically charged conclusions.

The abusive expansion of government control does not stop at energy, however. The Biden administration has also weaponized the administrative state to “debank” and restrict the crypto industry.

Venture capitalist Marc Andreessen recently revealed that the Biden administration has pressured financial institutions over the past few years to “debank” key executives and founders in the crypto industry, restricting the sector from accessing the banking system. Some have equated the practice to “financial redlining.”

The practice spans several federal agencies including the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which is accused of abusing its power to pressure banks to “choke off” an entire industry. Dubbed “Operation Choke Point 2.0,” these actions -- in tandem with Biden’s SEC declaring “war on crypto”-- highlight Biden’s rampant administrative overreach disguised through bureaucratic agencies mounting control. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse last month appeared on “60 Minutes,” where he detailed the SEC’s “war on crypto” and explained how the incoming Trump administration will take a different approach.

Even more recently, the Biden administration has declared a new administrative war, attempting to entirely rewrite federal housing regulations and malign the mortgage industry in efforts to shift blame for the housing affordability crisis that Biden has exacerbated.

In October, the Justice Department filed a lawsuit claiming that a Colorado housing appraiser engaged in racial discrimination, undervaluing a black woman’s home. The DOJ not only targeted the appraiser but tacked on the country’s biggest mortgage lender, Rocket Mortgage. That lawsuit sparked criticism from experts throughout the industry and legal scholars, who argued that mortgage lenders cannot be held responsible for the actions of an independent appraiser. The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act makes the role of the mortgage lender in appraisals clear: lenders cannot influence appraisers.

Now, Rocket Mortgage is punching back. Last month, the company sued the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), asking courts to clarify the contradictory federal laws and DOJ enforcement actions. Rocket contends that it was only named as a defendant in the DOJ lawsuit by ambitious federal prosecutors attempting to garner media attention.

In the waning days of the administration, Biden’s bumbling bureaucracy has also mobilized a federal consumer watchdog – the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) – to further attack the mortgage industry. On Dec. 23, the CFPB sued Rocket Homes, a sister company to Rocket Mortgage, accusing the company of being part of a sprawling kickback scheme with The Jason Mitchell Group (JMG), a real estate broker. JMG Founder Jason Mitchell has since slammed the lawsuit, revealing that the CFPB offered him a settlement in exchange for turning on Rocket.

Looking at Biden’s track record, it’s clear that the administration continues to target large corporations that will score them any remaining political points before the presidency changes hands and Republican rule takes over the House, Senate, and Oval Office.

Frivolous lawsuits against the housing and mortgage industry, engaging in questionable legal actions to ban offshore drilling, and mobilizing the bureaucratic state to aggressively attack companies seen as political enemies are all indicators of Bidens’ poor final attempt to cement his legacy, regardless of the extreme abuse of power.

The incoming Trump administration should be prepared to act as quickly as possible to dismantle the lingering cases of Biden’s lawfare. Florida’s own Pam Bondi will play a key role in this as she takes over the Trump administration’s Justice Department. The Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, should provide assistance, slashing the web of bureaucratic red tape that has been woefully abused by federal agencies under Biden.

Florida Rep. Vern Buchanan (R) has announced his membership in the bipartisan House Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus. The House DOGE Caucus was created to partner with President-elect Donald Trump's (R) proposed DOGE that will focus on addressing wasteful government spending.

DOGE is co-chaired by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who have both committed to targeting federal bureaucracy and wasteful government spending during President-elect Trump's time in office.

Republicans have praised the proposed agency, claiming that it will address much needed concerns within the government. Though Democrats have largely scoffed at DOGE and its leadership, Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D) became the first Democrat to join the House DOGE Caucus, suggesting changes within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that should be addressed.

The Democrat congressman cited his background in emergency management as the reason for wanting to join the caucus. Deeming that the DHS "has become too big" he explained last year that "it is 22 agencies, and so I think FEMA needs to be a direct report to the President like it was when it was created."

In a statement, Rep. Buchanan commented that "the national debt has surpassed an astounding $36 trillion, yet Congress has not balanced the budget in more than two decades." "The federal government wastes hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars annually," he informed, adding that "federal agencies have reportedly handed out $2.7 trillion in fraudulent, improper payments since 2003 - and that's just the tip of the iceberg."

Noting that the proposed efforts of the DOGE Caucus to "stop the madness" are long overdue, Rep. Buchanan celebrated his membership in the caucus, calling it a "critically important mission."

The House DOGE Caucus is chaired by Florida Rep. Aaron Bean (R), Texas Rep. Pete Sessions (R), and Utah Rep. Blake Moore (R).

Rep. Bean welcomed his congressional colleague on social media, writing that DOGE will "make America more like the free state of Florida!"

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) has released his legislative priorities heading into the 119th Congress. He intends to reintroduce bills regarding the economy, American seniors, the SNAP program, foreign policy, human trafficking, and other major issues in the United States.

Sen. Scott also wants to introduce Constitutional amendments regarding term limits and congressional pay raises.

“I’m excited to kick off the 119th Congress by refiling several pieces of legislation that truly protect and prioritize families in Florida and across the world and put their best interests first. This Congress, I’m proud to lead the Sunshine Protection Act to permanently lock the clock, and continue the fight to pass key elements of my plan to Make Washington Work like term limits for members of Congress and the No Budget, No Pay Act," Sen. Scott began.

Moreover, he also shared his anticipation to work with Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

"As a member of the Budget Committee, I’ll be working tirelessly with President Trump, my colleagues in the House and Senate, and Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy’s team at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to end the broken status quo and reckless spending in Washington ... I am honored to serve Florida in the U.S. Senate and I’ll be working every day to make Washington work for YOU.”

His legislative goals can be seen below, courtesy of Sen. Scott's office.

Making Washington Work & Turning America’s Economy Around

  • The Sunshine Protection Act to make daylight saving time the new, permanent standard time and eliminate the old, outdated practice of changing the clocks twice a year.

  • No Budget, No Pay Act to prohibit Members of Congress from being paid in a fiscal year until both chambers approve the budget resolution and pass all regular appropriations bills for that fiscal year. Funding the government is a basic job of Congress, and this bill holds members accountable for meeting appropriations deadlines or forgo their taxpayer-funded salaries until the job is done.

  • The Protect Our Seniors Act to preserve and protect Social Security and Medicare benefits for those who depend on these important programs.

  • The Homeowners Premium Tax Reduction Act to provide American homeowners an above-the-line tax deduction of up to $10,000 of premiums paid for homeowners’ insurance annually at their primary residence.

  • The Let's Get to Work Act to encourage every individual who can work to do so, which will help our nation’s economy thrive. This bill will expand work requirements under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and HUD housing programs, including applying SNAP work requirements to all able-bodied adults under 60 and those with children over 6.

Putting American Interests First & Holding Adversaries Accountable

  • The Drones for First Responders Act to put tariffs on the import of Chinese state-subsidized drones and phase-out U.S. dependence on America’s adversary, Communist China, for these essential systems that are vital to our military, first responders, infrastructure, farmers and businesses.

  • The Taiwan Invasion Prevention Act to authorize the President to use the Armed Forces to defend Taiwan against a direct attack by China's military, a taking of Taiwan's territory by China, or a threat that endangers the lives of civilians in Taiwan or members of Taiwan's military.

  • The Defending Domestic Produce Production Act to help Florida fruit and vegetable growers combat Mexico’s unfair trade by establishing a process by which a core seasonal industry may petition for countervailing and antidumping duties.

  • The Stopping Adversarial Tariff Evasion Act to enhance enforcement mechanisms against tariff evasion by foreign entities, ensuring that U.S. tariffs are effectively applied and that American manufacturers are not disadvantaged by unfair trade practices.

Securing the U.S. Border & Keeping Communities Safe

  • The Extending Limits of United States Customs Waters Act to expand the U.S. customs waters territory to help ensure the U.S. Coast Guard and CBP AMO have the jurisdiction and authority needed to stop drug and human trafficking so that families everywhere remain safe.

  • The Stop Human Trafficking of Unaccompanied Migrant Children Act which ensures extensive vetting by the DHS and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) before a vulnerable unaccompanied child is placed with a sponsor. This bill adds stricter requirements for placing unaccompanied alien children with sponsors, including mandatory background checks and home visits for both sponsors and household members. It also requires the Department of Health and Human Services to retroactively apply these standards to past placements since January 2021.

  • The School Guardian Act to create a block grant program administered by the U.S. Department of Justice supporting the hiring of one or more law enforcement officers to provide full-time security at every K-12 school in the country, including all public, private and religious schools.

Fighting for Freedom and Democracy in Latin America

  • The DEMOCRACIA Act to hold the illegitimate communist Cuban regime accountable through severe sanctions and unprecedented financial pressure on foreign persons involved in supporting the Cuban government’s defense sector, human rights abuses, or terrorism. This bill also authorizes the President to use any means possible to provide unrestricted, reliable internet service to the people of Cuba that is not censored or blocked by the Cuban regime.

  • The BOLIVAR Act to prohibit executive agencies from contracting with individuals or entities that, in concurrence with the Department of State, are found to engage in significant business operations with Venezuela's Maduro regime.

Standing with U.S. Ally Israel

  • The Stop Taxpayer Funding of Hamas Act to prohibit obligating or expending U.S. funds in Gaza unless the President certifies that the funds will not benefit Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, other foreign terrorist organizations, or their members.

Support our American Heroes

  • The SCHEDULES Act to require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) to establish a comprehensive standard for timing between referrals and appointments for care at VA facilities and to submit a report with respect to that standard. This will increase transparency within the VA so veterans have more insight into when their appointments will be scheduled.

  • The Veteran’s Accessibility Act to establish the Veterans Advisory Committee on Equal Access within the Department of Veterans Affairs to improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities. The committee will advise the Secretary on enhancing physical, electronic, and informational access, ensuring compliance with federal disability laws, and providing reports to the Secretary, Congress, and the public on accessibility needs and improvements.

Republicans are currently experiencing a fallout after a tense debate over keeping the government funded. The latest debacle concerns the H-1B visa, and Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) believes that her Dignity Act can unite the party. Former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) however is now pushing back against the notion, warning that the Dignity Act provides amnesty for illegal immigrants.

In recent weeks, President-elect Donald Trump (R) and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Chairmen Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have sparked a national discussion surrounding the H-1B visa, a visa that allows United States employers to employ foreign workers for specialty occupations.

President-elect Trump backs the H-1B visa, telling the New York Post recently that he's always supported the visa. "I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program," he reportedly said.

However, some of the president-elect's supporters feel slighted, claiming that support for the visa is not "America First."

On social media, Rep. Salazar backed President-elect Trump, Musk, and Ramaswamy, adding that the United States needs to tackle country caps on immigration as well as green card backlogs. As an antidote to the issue, she posits that "the Dignity Act addresses these to increase American prosperity & competitiveness."

Former Rep. Gaetz quickly responded to social media post, sharing the admiration he has for Rep. Salazar, but noting that the Dignity Act has its concerns.

"She’s a smart, dedicated public servant who is a wonderful person. She’s also correct about country caps, IMHO," he wrote on X. "But the “Dignity Act” includes amnesty for illegal immigrants. This is deeply unwise. Let’s stop the invasion before destroying the party over amnesty."

The Dignity Act also provides two pathways for eligible citizenship: Dignity Status or the "Redemption Program."

The former provides work authorization, legal permanent residency, and travel authorization. However, illegal immigrants who choose Dignity Status would be ineligible for citizenship.

The latter creates a pathway to citizenship for eligible illegal immigrants, which includes passing English and U.S. civics tests and community service or an additional $5,000 fine.

Lawmakers want to avoid a government shutdown, but the continuing resolution that’s been proposed to do exactly that has generated unfavorable reviews. The 1,000+ page resolution has received condemnation from Republicans who argue that the proposed CR is exactly why the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was created.

Republicans are less than thrilled this afternoon as House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) has thrown his support behind a CR that will avert a government shutdown while allegedly backtracking on everything Republicans promised to offer post-election cycle.

Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R), who’s been a vocal critic of the government’s spending, accused congress of being “fundamentally unserious about spending” this week.

“We’re just fundamentally unserious about spending,” he told reporters this week. “As long as you got a blank check, you can’t shrink government. If you can’t shrink government, you can’t live free,” Rep. Roy added.

https://twitter.com/chiproytx/status/1869054289861308876

Arizona Rep. Eli Crane (R) also weighed in on the CR debacle, accusing some lawmakers of political platitudes when it comes to government spending.

https://twitter.com/RepEliCrane/status/1869132337587671101

On X, the Arizona Republican addressed his congressional colleagues, writing that “if you’re supporting the creation of DOGE by @elonmusk & @VivekGRamaswamy but you constantly support CRs and debt ceiling increases, you might want to take a hard look in the mirror.”

This is a sentiment that other Republican congress members have shared, accusing some lawmakers of being “DOGE in Name Only,” dubbing them DINOs.

https://twitter.com/RepKeithSelf/status/1869131524886663527

According to South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace (R), “the first 9 pages of this Continuing Resolution are all we need to keep the government open,” adding that “the other 1,500+ pages are a handbook on how the government plans to waste your tax dollars for a bit.”

https://twitter.com/RepNancyMace/status/1869202969809535429

Speaker Johnson has received significant pushback in the face of imminent government spending, but he maintains that the CR that will keep federal agencies funded through March 14 if approved by the House is a “clean CR” that “responsibly funds the government”.

With more members of Congress willing to cooperate with President-elect Donald Trump and the incoming Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), one area of government spending sure to be prickly is defense spending, which was part of the discussion during Representative Cory Mills' (R-FL) recent appearance on Fox Business's Bottom Line, saying it demonstrated the need for banning stock trading between Congressmen and moratoriums on going into lobbying.

Co-host Dagen McDowell suggested many Republicans would be in for a "rude awakening," as their support of DOGE was only lip service, because defense spending is going to be a target of DOGE heads Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, as the Pentagon has failed seven audits in a row.

As a result, McDowell said Rep. Mills and similar members of Congress will need to "publicly embarrass members of your own party" because of the "sacred cow" status of the Defense Department, and many of those Republicans go into lobbying for the defense contractors.

Hence, Rep. Mills said, "One, we need to ban stock trading for every member of Congress and their spouse. We have to put a moratorium in place that says you cannot lobby or try to go to a business or corporation that you actually oversaw within your committee of jurisdiction. We have to cut the conflicts of interest, but we also have to understand that we need procurement reform. We need to guarantee that we are able to have a strong and robust military, but at the same time, we need efficiencies in place that actually treat the warfighter."

The Florida Congressman expressed support for increasing soldiers' salaries, quality of life, and family care, "but what I am not about is building the coffers of these defense industries that continue to try and overspend and over cost and basically not deliver," pointing to the F-35 program condemned by former Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) in October as an example.

"These are the things that we need to be auditing and holding them accountable for because this is the issue. [It] is that we have generals who oversee these programs, they can go sit on the boards of the very companies they oversee after a one year cooldown period. We need to go ahead and get a 10-year moratorium in place and guarantee that we can cut the conflicts of interest," Mills concluded.

The November Producer Price Index (PPI) report’s publication on December 12th, demonstrating a 3% increase in annual inflation for 2024 under President Joe Biden, has incited criticism towards the white house’s economic policies.

The PPI reported an 11% increase in the price of Fruit, 34% in Vegetables, 80% in Eggs, and 13% in Coffee among other products whose prices have skyrocketed during President Biden’s term.

Since Biden took office, PPI inflation has increased 20.8% percent.

Consequently, economists and conservative lawmakers are criticizing Biden’s fiscal policies, claiming these have created rising inflation that is hurting Americans’ pockets.

US Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) slammed Biden’s economic agenda as “a complete failure for the American people.”

“Biden-Harris price hikes have plagued Americans' wallets and savings accounts, and that has all played a role in The American Dream being erased during the failed Biden administration,” continued Senator Scott.

Scott also alleged the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) would work to undo many of Biden’s poor economic policies.

The Executive DOGE will be led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy and, while it has yet to be officially formed, has already begun presenting its plans for reducing capricious government spending.

DOGE leader Vivek Ramaswamy responded to the PPI report stating it is up to DOGE to “clean up” Biden’s economic mess.

“Debt-fueled government spending causes inflation which is an invisible tax. Government overregulation depresses economic activity which is an invisible tax. That is Biden’s legacy & now it’s our job to clean up the mess,” said Ramaswamy.

Despite being a novel government institution, DOGE has incited much hope in many fiscal conservatives for radical fiscal policy changes.

While some have claimed DOGE will be unable to execute its ambitious government spending reductions, conservative control of all three branches of government grants the new department an enviable set-up.

In an exclusive interview with The Floridian, Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) shared some issues he would like to see the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) address come January 20th. DOGE, spearheaded by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, has committed itself to going after government waste. However, the Florida senator posits that it should also prioritize government regulations. Namely, Senator Scott believes that DOGE should target government regulations instituted by both the Biden Administration and the Obama Administration.

Senator Scott: "It’s what I’ve done along that’s exciting. I turned over failing businesses. What did I do? I got rid of the waste. Okay. I became governor of Florida and got rid of the 20% of the regulatory environment and streamlined the permitting. That did more to add jobs than any of the tax cuts we did, right?

Senator Scott: Up here, think about this, in the last five years: 2% increase in population. 53% increase in government spending. [pause] In the last 4 years, the regulatory costs under the Biden Administration has increased cost by 2.6 trillion dollars. We only have a 28 trillion dollar economy.

Senator Scott: I’ve been talking to Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, and the first thing is go after all the new regulations. Go after the Biden regulations, and go after the Obama… you’ll have to go through Congress. It’s just with the agencies. You do it all just with the agencies. That’s trillions of dollars. Trillions of dollars. That’s what they’ve added the last four years, so that’s the first thing I would do.

Senator Scott: Then, the other thing is look at all the waste. Look at all the increase in spending over the last five years. So what’s happened? Why do we have to grow this much faster? Look at all the new spending in the last five years. There’s gonna be so much of it that they can eliminate, so I’m very optimistic that we’re gonna see a reduction in the size of the federal government, a reduction of the regulatory environment, streamline the permitting environment, and I’m hopeful at some point for a balanced budget.
