Cammack Calls Trump DOJ's Firing of Jack Smith Associates 'Long Overdue' and Necessary to Restore 'Law and Order'

Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) discussed the Trump Department of Justice (DOJ) firing a dozen officials who worked on ex-Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigations into President Donald Trump in a recent appearance on Fox News's Faulkner Focus, saying it was "long overdue" and "far more about righting the ship and getting back to a place of law and order."

The New York Post described how Acting Attorney General James McHenry dismissed the 12 or more unidentified officials because they could not be trusted "to assist in faithfully implementing the President's agenda" and is part of an overarching goal of "ending the weaponization of government."

In addition to calling the dismissals "long overdue," Rep. Cammack said, "These are individuals who violated their oath of office [and] weaponized the justice system with the end goal being a political outcome, which was to stop Trump. These individuals intimidated witnesses, they withheld evidence, and I think that their firing should just be the beginning, honestly, if we are going to be back into a place where we are a nation of law and order and accountability."

As a result, not only does Smith's investigative team need to face legal consequences, but "that is something that the American people demanded in this election, and I think that this is a very good start, but we know how deep the weaponization of government goes, and it is going to take a lot of work, and a lot of people are going to be held to account."

Host Harris Faulkner asked Rep. Cammack what she thought of critics who accuse the Trump Administration of firing the team as a form of retaliation. She replied, "I think that if they are going to go down that path, they are going to have +70 million Americans standing in their way."

"It is far more about righting the ship and getting back to a place of law and order, equal justice for all. And what we saw, certainly over the last four years but even prior under Obama, was a systematic targeting of conservatives, and that was across all spheres of government," the Florida Congresswoman continued, referencing the targeting of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), online censorship, and other forms of partisan targeting.

"So this is a long time coming of getting back to the basics of upholding the law, and we are no longer a system of double standards and who is better politically connected. It is all about truth, and that is what President Donald Trump campaigned on. And we are right now in the midst of promises made, promises kept," Cammack concluded.
