President Donald Trump’s Treasury Department, led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, has announced a series of measures tightening sanctions on Iran’s illicit oil sales via its ‘Ghost Fleet.’

Iran has recently expanded efforts to circumvent US-imposed oil exports by covertly shipping Iranian oil through a network of foreign tankers colloquially referred to as Iran’s  ‘Ghost Fleet.’

The latest measures come after Secretary of State Marco Rubio imposed a number of sanctions on the Ghost Fleet earlier this February.

According to the Treasury Department, Iran has harnessed its illicit oil trade to generate billions of dollars that it subsequently funnels to its military and proxy groups.

“Iran continues to rely on a shadowy network of vessels, shippers, and brokers to facilitate its oil sales and fund its destabilizing activities,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. “The United States will use all our available tools to target all aspects of Iran’s oil supply chain, and anyone who deals in Iranian oil exposes themselves to significant sanctions risk.”

Secretary Bessent explained the latest sanctions are designed to deprive Iran of revenue from its petroleum and petrochemical sectors and are part of President Trump’s ‘maximum pressure’ policy on Iran and its proxies.

Sanctions target oil brokers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Hong Kong, tanker operators and managers in India and People’s Republic of China (PRC), the head of Iran’s National Iranian Oil Company, and the Iranian Oil Terminals Company (IOTC).

The US previously sanctioned Iran’s oil sector in 2018 to dissuade the country from financing terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas, cartel activity, and perfidious nuclear development.

However, Iran has managed to skirt such sanctions through its ‘Ghost Fleet,’ prompting initial sanctions from President Joe Biden and the State Department’s actions earlier this February.

One report from the United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) nonprofit outlines the extent of the ‘Ghost Fleet’ scheme, which includes nearly 200 Panamanian vessels.

Secretary Rubio previously led congressional efforts to combat the ghost fleet.

Then-Senator Rubio and Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) communicated Iran’s illegal operation to Panamanian authorities, which began to investigate and remove suspected ships from Panamanian ports.

US-Iran tensions have reached unprecedented levels, as the latter has increased hostile activity against the former and its allies since Hamas’ October 7th attacks.

The US military has announced the death of a senior operative of Al-Qaeda affiliate Hurras al-Din (HaD) after US Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted air strikes against a HaD stronghold.

CENTCOM forces struck Northwest Syria, targeting and killing a HaD senior finance and logistics official.

"We will continue to relentlessly pursue terrorists in order to defend our homeland, and U.S., allied, and partner personnel in the region,” said Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, commander, U.S. Central Command.

President Donald Trump commended General Kurilla and CENTCOM for their successful mission.

“Congratulations to CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Kurilla, and the US warfighters who dealt Justice to another Jihadi threatening America and our allies and partners,” said President Trump

The US has been waging a silent war against Al Qaeda and its affiliates who have resurged across the Middle East following the Taliban’s recuperation of control over Afghanistan.

Nearly four years have passed since the Taliban’s shocking return to power.

A celebratory parade boasting the millions of dollars in US equipment they were able to scavenge from abandoned US military assets was held during the three year anniversary celebrations of their return.

Last August, CENTCOM reported its forces killed Al Qaeda leader Abu-’Abd al-Rahman al-Makki in a targeted strike.

Al-Makki was a senior leader of Hurras al-Din, a Syrian chapter of Al Qaeda.

According to CENTCOM, “Abu-’Abd al-Rahman al-Makki was a Hurras al-Din Shura Council member and senior leader responsible for overseeing terrorist operations from Syria.”

HaD, designated a terrorist organization by President Donald Trump in 2019, advocates attacks against the US, Israel, and the West.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) explains some of Hurras al-Din’s terror tactics include kidnapping, small arms attacks, and car bombs.

HaD is estimated to number over 2,000 fighters.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Israel has underscored a shift in the US’ foreign policy priorities for the Middle East.

Secretary Rubio’s messaging and travel itinerary symbolized clear departures from the foreign policy strategy of former President Joe Biden’s administration.

First, Rubio’s arrival to Israel was paralleled by the delivery of heavy explosive missiles – the transferal of which to Israel had been paused by President Biden due to humanitarian concerns.

Next, Rubio’s itinerary did not include any official meetings with Palestinian leaders, signaling the US’ prioritization of Israeli concerns and belittling the Palestinian cause.

While President Donald Trump has not explicitly discarded the Palestinian push for statehood, his recent comments suggesting the US should “take over” and control Gaza have obfuscated how, and if, a Palestinian state would even come to existence.

Additionally, Rubio and President Trump have repeatedly reaffirmed their support of Israel’s war aims of applying maximum pressure to return all hostages home and decimating Hamas.

“Hamas cannot continue as a military or government force,” said Rubio during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “As long as (Hamas) stands as a force that can govern or as a force that can administer or as a force that can threaten by use of violence, peace becomes impossible.  They must be eliminated.”

Conversely, President Biden’s administration had attempted to balance supporting Israel’s military with the humanitarian concerns of Palestinians and Palestinian supporters in the US.

Biden’s administration even publicly collided with Prime Minister Netanyahu’s management of Israel’s wars against Hamas and Hezbollah.

Some conservatives criticized Biden’s policies as conciliatory towards the terrorist groups targeting Israel and Iran, their ultimate financial backers.

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz condemned Biden’s Israel and broader Middle East policy as having “completely failed.”

American military and allied forces continue battling ISIS terrorists in the Middle East.

In early January, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the beginning of the Defeat Isis (D-ISIS) operation, designed to decimate the terrorist group.

D-ISIS is focusing on ISIS strongholds in the Hamrin mountains of Iraq and the Dayr az-Zawr region of Syria.

CENTCOM recently released information describing air strikes that eliminated various ISIS targets in Iraq.

“On Feb. 10, Iraqi Security Forces (ISF), enabled by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces, conducted precision airstrikes in the vicinity of Kirkuk, Iraq, killing two ISIS operatives,” said CENTCOM.

A post-strike investigation allegedly confirmed the death of the two ISIS terrorists and found they had been in possession of various explosive devices, including a suicide bomb belt.

“ISIS remains a threat to the region and beyond, and CENTCOM, along with partners and allies, will continue to aggressively pursue these terrorists,” concluded CENTCOM.

ISIS resurged during former President Joe Biden’s administration but has been weakening thanks to revitalized military efforts against them by the US and allies.

However, ISIS’ renewed presence has raised alarms, as even domestic terror attacks in the US, such as the recent New Orleans massacre, have been linked to the terror group.

There has also been increased reporting of arrests at the southwest border of individuals with potential links to ISIS and other terror groups.

Republican lawmakers had warned President Biden’s border policies would allow terrorist operatives to surreptitiously slip into the US.

Nearly two dozen Senators previously penned a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas demanding answers on numerous concerning border crossing statistics.

Among these are releases of aliens potentially belonging to Afghani, Somalian, and Uzbekistani terrorist groups into the US.

Representative Brian Mast (R-FL) praised President Donald Trump's recent reinstatement of military servicemembers discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine in a recent appearance on Fox and Friends First, calling it "a great day for patriots."

Via an executive order, the approximately 8,000 servicemembers discharged for refusing the vaccine and want to return to service will retain their rank and receive full back pay and benefits.

In addition to saying it is "a great day for patriots," Rep. Mast reminded viewers that "it was not just the military. It was other government agencies as well where they were washing, essentially, conservatives that were raising their hands and saying, 'Hey, I do not want to take this vaccine."

More egregiously, Rep. Mast insinuated the discharged servicemembers were also denied promotions and were instead going to members who said, "I am okay with everything that you are doing right now."

The host further commented that the reinstatement will aid with recruiting and "will not hurt," to which the Florida Congressman said, "It is going to be beautiful having these individuals returning, putting on that uniform, that sense of pride for their family that they stood up for their causes, what they believed in, and were rewarded for it."

Mast introduced legislation in January 2023 to reinstate the 8,000 servicemembers discharged for not taking the vaccine. This would have provided the same benefits of back pay and retaining rank.

"There are thousands of people who have been harmed by Joe Biden's big government edict, but this bill is about more than just righting that wrong; it's about military readiness.  We need to get these men and women back in uniform and back doing the job they were trained to do: protecting our nation," Mast said.

In July 2023, Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) introduced his own bill for reinstating the 8,000 discharged as an amendment to the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which also included amendments defunding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the military and banning designated state sponsors of terrorism from buying American real estate.

Colombian President Caves After Trump Threatens Tariffs Over Illegal Immigration

Colombia's Socialist President Gustavo Petro felt the wrath of the new American administration this past weekend, when President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs against his country for refusing to allow a couple of U.S. planes full of Colombian illegal aliens to land.

Upon the refusal to repatriate the illegal aliens back to Colombia, President Trump threatened Colombia with tariffs, causing Petro to buckle and bend the knee, allowing all Colombians in the U.S., who get deported, to reenter the country.

“We have overcome the impasse with the United States government,” stated Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo. “We will continue to receive Colombians who return as deportees, guaranteeing them decent conditions as citizens subject to rights.”

In a press release, White House Press Secretary Karoline Kleavitt said that the South American country “agreed to all of President Trump’s terms”, including “unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia."

Even as Colombia agreed to the Trump administration's terms, those tariffs and sanctions will sit in waiting and ready to be implemented, if Colombia renege on the agreement.

Meanwhile, President Trump enjoyed golf at his Doral hotel in Miami.

On the first day of his term, President Donald Trump (R) signed an executive order withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO). Following this announcement, Representatives Greg Steube (R-FL) and Jodey Arrington (R-TX) introduced the WHO is Accountable Act, a bill intending to prevent future Presidents from rejoining the WHO without any evidence of improved conditions.

The WHO is not necessarily known as a transparent, honest organization by all. For instance, the House Oversight Committee found in December that the WHO "caved to political pressure from the Chinese Communist Party" during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Therefore should House Budget Chairman Arrington's bill become law, if the next President wanted to rejoin the WHO, it would require Congressional approval. Without Congressional approval, the WHO would need to meet the following standards:

    • WHO isn’t involved in a coverup of the CCP’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • WHO isn’t under the control or significant malign influence of the CCP.
    • WHO puts in mechanisms to increase transparency and accountability in its operations to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse.
    • WHO adopts meaningful reforms to ensure humanitarian assistance isn’t politicized and provided to those with the most need.
    • WHO grants observer status to Taiwan.
    • No funds are diverted to corrupt regimes like Iran and North Korea.

Rep. Steube, the bill's co-sponsor, shared that the WHO promulgates radical left-wing ideology for the Chinese Communist Party worldwide.

“The WHO is a globalist, CCP run entity that disproportionally charges the US compared to other countries and pushes their CCP and progressive ideology on the American people and the world,” said Rep. Steube.

Steube continued, “Their handling of Covid is just one example. This ends now. I applaud President Trump who had the courage to do what Congress hasn’t, ensuring that American taxpayer dollars are spent on the needs of the US not China. The WHO is Accountable Act will support President Trump’s plans to ensure the U.S. stays out of this corrupt organization unless major reforms take place.”

Moreover, Chairman Arrington stated that the WHO is "CCP-controlled," eluding to the notion that significant change is needed from the organization.

“President Trump was right to pull the United States out of the CCP-controlled World Health Organization,” said Chairman Arrington. “Now, Congress must take action to ensure future Presidents can’t foolishly rejoin this corrupt organization without major reforms. I have long said that I will fight against any attempt to surrender our sovereignty and cede regulatory power over the United States through a treaty, agreement, or arrangement."

Furthermore, Rep. Arrington said this bill plays a role in prolonging President Trump's America First agenda after his time in office.

"The World Health Organization aided and abetted China in covering up their incompetence with COVID-19, all while spending American tax dollars promulgating woke and radical ideology. This is why I’m proud to lead my colleagues in ensuring President Trump’s America First agenda endures," concluded Arrington.

With a Republican-controlled House and Senate, this bill could find its way to Trump's desk.

The Sky is Falling! The Sky is Falling!

The sky was falling in Northwest Florida for the first time in many years. It wasn’t rain or hail, but snow. Yes, snow.

South Florida is used to seeing a different type of snow come into the state in neatly packaged blocks, but the cold and fluffy stuff that fell on the Florida Panhandle caused concern for Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Department of Transportation.

Prior to the historic winter storm hitting the “Gulf of America” states, Gov. DeSantis deployed FDOT to use de-icing equipment to treat some 600 state-owned bridges in the region and put utility crews on standby to fix any power outages that could occur.

After the snow fell, Gov. DeSantis joked about the winter wonderland that NW Florida had become, stating,” The blizzard beaches of Northwest Florida.”

Introducing Senator Ashley Moody

Shortly after Senator Marco Rubio was sworn in as Secretary of State, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to the oath of office to become the next U.S. Senator from Florida.

“Over the past six years, we secured victories fighting the opioid crisis, locking up human traffickers, pushing back on unlawful immigration policies, revolutionizing organized retail theft investigations, recruiting hundreds of new law enforcement officers, backing the blue, modernizing crime reporting, defending life, and so much more. It has been a tremendous honor to serve as your Attorney General, and I am determined to keep fighting for the future of our great state and nation as U.S. Senator,” stated Sen. Moody.

Now, Moody will face something she has never had to face—A hostile press corps.

Sen. Moody will now have to walk the daily media gauntlet on Capitol Hill. Moody held very few and controlled press conferences as attorney general, but life on Capitol Hill differs greatly from life in Tallahassee.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- Senate Democrat Shevrin "Shev" Jones (D-Miami Gardens) celebrated the release of three Israeli hostages on Sunday following a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

"Three women who have suffered 471 days unimaginable torture at the hands of Hamas are now home in Israel.[Ribbon] 94 for hostages remain in Gaza," Jones said. "As this ceasefire continues, I look forward to celebrating each and every hostage’s return. I pray they find peace in the arms of their loved ones.

The three hostages, Romi Gonen, Doron Steinbrecher, and Emily Damari, were released by Hamas to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). All three women reportedly received medical treatment and were in good health after entering Israeli territory.

In exchange, Israel released 90 Palestinian prisoners and detainees early Monday.

Gonen was kidnapped from the Nova music festival in October 2023. Damari and Steinbrecher were also kidnapped from Kibbutz Kfar Aza that month.

Overall, Hamas held all three women in captivity each for 471 days.

The move comes after former President Joe Biden announced a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas last week. President Trump also recently said there would be "ALL HELL TO PAY" if hostages were not released by his inauguration date.

Under its terms, Hamas is expected to release 33 hostages in phase one of the ceasefire, which began Sunday and is anticipated to last 42 days. Four more hostages would be released on day seven with the remaining 26 over the next five weeks.

Israel is expected to release 2,000 Palestinian prisoners overall in phase one of the deal.

Two other phases are also being negotiated, but the ceasefire or release of more hostages is not guaranteed beyond phase one. Subsequent phases could also lead to an end to the war.

The announcement comes more than a year after Hamas launched a terrorist attack on the Jewish State on Oct. 7, 2023. The assault, the deadliest on Jews since the Holocaust, resulted in the murder of more than 1,200 Israelis and the kidnapping of 250 hostages.

Jones represents Senate District 34 which includes Miami Gardens. Jones won the SD 34 general election after it was canceled in 2022. He also already declared his reelection bid for the seat for 2026.

Inauguration Day

It's Inauguration Day, and the day Republicans (most Americans) have waited for is finally here. Today is Martin Luther King Day, and President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

It will be colder than an ice box in Washington, D.C., but that is OK for MAGA, who has braved the weather and traveled to the Capitol to see President Trump take the oath of office.

This past weekend, the Florida Republican universe converged on the Republican Party of Florida Gala and the Sunshine State Gala hosted by Senator Rick Scott.

The who-is-who of Republican politics in Florida, including several senators from around the country and yours truly, were in attendance.

Soon-to-be Secretary of State, Senator Marco Rubio showed up late, but still found time to come up to me and recite one of his trademark and corny personal digs in his feeble attempt to poke fun at me to my wife on his way out.

While he tries to be funny, I do have to give him credit for having one of the best Tony Montana accents.

Without telling too much about how his new gig will play out in the coming weeks and months, I can tell you that his media publisher will not skip a beat, and will be making some of those state trips abroad as part of the traveling press (wifey still has final say on this).

Also, a rare and historic moment took place. Florida Politics' Publisher Peter Schorsch and I met up for the first time in many moons and posed for this rare photo.

President Trump is reported to be dropping 100+ executive orders to undo the disaster President Biden left him.

Congress will resume on Tuesday.

Rick Scott-Joe Biden allowed US citizens and innocent Israeli civilians to be held hostage by Hamas terrorists for more than 470 days.

It took President Trump returning to office to gain those hostages’ freedom. Bring them all home.

Rubio, Bondi Shine During Senate Confirmation Hearings

Senate Democrats tried their best to derail Senator Marco Rubio and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi during their Senate confirmation hearings, but those efforts never took off.

Sen. Rubio is well respected and liked by many of his Democratic colleagues, so expect him to cruise into the Secretary of State position. Put a fork in it, Rubio is in.

Bondi, on the other hand, faced constant scrutiny by Senators Alex Padilla, Sheldon Whitehead, Dick Durbin, and others, who all tried to press Bondi to say that she would weaponize the Attorney General's office for President Donald Trump and to admit that the 2020 Presidential election was rigged.

She didn't bite. Instead, she planted her foot squarely across their faces.

“If confirmed as United States Attorney General, my overriding objective would be to return the Department of Justice to its core mission of keeping Americans safe and vigorously enforcing the law."—Pam Bondi

Florida Senator Rick Scott introduced his friend and former colleague, saying that Bondi was the right person to fix the problematic and weaponized Department of Justice.

"Under her leadership, the DOJ will actually fairly enforce the laws, protect the rights of the American people, and keep our nation safe, and crack down on violent crimes and dangerous drugs, and the American people will trust her to do so," said Sen. Scott. "I know that well because I worked alongside Pam Bondi for eight years when I was governor of Florida and she was Florida's elected Attorney General, working to improve the lives of Floridians, to make Florida the best state in the nation to live, work and raise a family."... READ MORE

As a handful of Floridians are about to begin service inside The West Wing for the incoming Trump administration, a familiar last name is heading back to Washington. Caroline Wiles, daughter of President-elect Donald Trump's (R) campaign manager and current White House Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, has accepted a position with the prominent lobbying firm Rubin Turnbull & Associates.

The firm recently announced its establishment of a Washington, D.C. office, and Wiles will serve as the Vice President of Foreign Affairs. Wiles is a veteran Republican consultant, also worked in the first Trump administration, and has worked on a slew of local, state, and federal political campaigns.

In speaking to The Floridian Publisher Javier Manjarres about her new job, Wiles reiterated that she was “excited to bring our clients the highest level of expertise and insight" and said it was “a privilege” to work alongside the company's founder, Bill Rubin.

“I’ve known Bill for over 15 years, ever since we first crossed paths during U.S. Sen. Rick Scott’s initial run for Governor of Florida. He is an incredibly hard worker. It’s a privilege to collaborate with him and Heather Turnbull — an exceptional leader — as we establish our new office in Washington, D.C.,” said Caroline Wiles.

President-elect Trump’s Senior Advisor and co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita, also praised the hiring of Wiles, acknowledging her “work ethic and commitment,” adding she was a great fit for the firm.

The company's founder Bill Rubin said he's optimistic that this will be "one of our most successful ventures" by adding Caroline Wiles.

“This D.C. office marks an exciting expansion of our firm, which we have held to the highest standards of client service since its founding in 1992. Today, we launch a new chapter, and with the leadership of Caroline Wiles, I am confident that this will be one of our most successful ventures to date,” said Rubin.

He continued, “Caroline’s experience on several presidential campaigns — and most recently in Florida — allows us to give our clients the absolute best advice and guidance for their most decisive moments. This is a great fit for our firm, and I am excited to work with Caroline every day.”

In addition to the newly added D.C. office, Rubin Turnbull & Associates has locations in Tallahassee, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami.

Considering that the eldest of the Wiles women (Katie) has landed a consulting job with former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Carlos Trujillo’s Continental Government lobby firm, Team Wiles appears to be on the verge of leaving a significant legislative and presidential mark in and around the West Wing.

Now alongside her daughters in D.C., Susie Wiles will be the first female Chief of Staff for a sitting President of the United States.

President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn into the Oval Office on Jan. 20.

Publisher Javier Manjarres contributed to this story.

Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire deal brokered by President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump’s teams.

President Biden announced the deal, which President Trump claimed “could have only happened as a result of our Historic Victory in November.”

Biden explained his team worked with Trump to represent the United States as “one team” during the negotiations.

Shortly after winning the presidential elections, Trump warned Hamas would have “hell to pay.”

"Please let this TRUTH serve to represent that if the hostages are not released prior to January 20, 2025, the date that I proudly assume Office as President of the United States, there will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East, and for those in charge who perpetrated these atrocities against Humanity," said Trump. "Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America."

Trump’s comments have seemed to work, as Hamas subsequently entered negotiation talks that climaxed with the current ceasefire deal.

Trump added he would pursue the preservation of the ceasefire deal and continue promoting “peace through strength” throughout the Middle East.

“With this deal in place, my National Security team, through the efforts of Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, will continue to work closely with Israel and our Allies to make sure Gaza NEVER again becomes a terrorist safe haven,” assured Trump

The ceasefire deal includes assurances from Hamas it will release Israeli hostages as long as Israel releases detained Palestinians.

Israel and Hamas have been at war since Hamas’ barbaric October 7th, 2023 incursion into Israel.

Hamas terrorists killed thousands and took hundreds more captive.

Israeli intelligence reports allege Hamas still holds 101 hostages in Gaza, of which 84 are men and 13 women, including 2 children under the age of 5.

Biden’s administration had attempted to balance supporting Israel’s military with the humanitarian concerns of Palestinians and Palestinian supporters in the US by attempting to cooperate with Hamas officials.

Conversely, Trump's election and his recent cabinet nominations forecast a shift in the US' Israel policy towards a more hardline approach that prioritizes Israel's war efforts and shows little deference to Hamas and Palestinian concerns.

MIAMI - Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava commended the announcement of a ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas on Wednesday.

"Over a year after the horrific acts of terror inflicted on Israel, and following months of terrible violence, we welcome the news that a ceasefire was reached and the remaining hostages will be released. We have prayed for an end to bloodshed, and today our prayers are answered," Levine Cava said.

Announced by President Joe Biden, the deal will reportedly "halt the fighting in Gaza, surge much needed-humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians, and reunite the hostages with their families after more than 15 months in captivity.”

Under its terms, Hamas is expected to release 33 hostages in phase one of the ceasefire, which is expected to last 42 days. In exchange, Israel would release 100 Palestinian prisoners with life sentences.

Two other phases are also being negotiated, but the ceasefire is not guaranteed to continue beyond the first phase. However, subsequent phases could bring an end to the war.

The deal comes after a week of intense negotiations brokered by Qatar, the U.S. and Egypt. Envoys from President Biden's administration and President-elect Donald Trump's team were also part of the negotiations.

Trump recently said on Truth Social there would be "ALL HELL TO PAY" if hostages were not released by his inauguration date.

White House officials said the agreement could start as early as Sunday.

The announcement comes more than a year after Hamas launched a terrorist attack on the Jewish State on Oct. 7, 2023. The assault, the deadliest on Jews since the Holocaust, resulted in the murder of more than 1,200 Israelis and the kidnapping of 250 hostages.

"My heart breaks for all the lives lost to devastating violence, and for all the families of those taken hostage and all those who were killed. We must never forget, and we honor the memory of all those who were lost, as we pray for their loved ones," Cava said. "Let this moment bring an end to Hamas's terror against the people of Israel as we uplift all those in Palestine striving for lasting peace."
